Watchdog, version 2.0

Watchdog protects you before you dial.

Once it's installed, you don't have to do anything differently. Open a contact, Watchdog scans it. If something's wrong, you'll know before you can dial.

What Watchdog does

The DNC popup

When you open a HubSpot contact or company that's flagged Do Not Call, Watchdog shows a full-screen warning and grays out the Call button. You have to click "I understand" before you can do anything else.

DO NOT CALL popup

Clicking "I understand" does not mean you're overriding anything. It just confirms you've seen the warning. Do not call DNC contacts.

Enterprise contacts

Some contacts are owned by Beagle's Enterprise team. If you're on the standard team, Watchdog will block you from calling those too. If you think you should have access, talk to your manager, don't try to work around it.

If the contact is clear

No popup means no flag. Watchdog is silent when everything is fine. You won't see any Watchdog UI at all on a clean contact, which is exactly how it's supposed to work.

The floating dialer

Dialer warning New

If you use HubSpot's pop-out dialer and type a DNC number into the search box, Watchdog shows a warning right there, before you even get to the call button. It's a warning, not a hard block, but treat it the same way.

Dialer warning popup

The dialer warning only fires if Watchdog already knows that number is DNC. Numbers the team has flagged are shared automatically, so a number one rep encounters in the field is protected for everyone within 24 hours.

Reporting an issue

Snapshot Report

If Watchdog gets something wrong, you can report it with one click. Click the Watchdog icon in your toolbar, then click one of the two report buttons.

Watchdog popup
Flagged it wrong — Watchdog showed a DNC popup on a contact that is NOT actually DNC. Use this when you think the flag is a mistake.
Missed a DNC — You opened a contact that you know is DNC, but Watchdog didn't flag it. Use this to let the team know so it can be added.

Your report includes a screenshot of the page automatically. You need to pin Watchdog to your toolbar for the report button to be one click away, not buried in the extensions menu.

The one rule

What not to do

Do not call a contact immediately after clicking "I understand." That button clears the block so you can view the record. Verify that the contact genuinely is DNC before moving on. If it is, do not call it.
Do not disable or remove the extension without talking to your manager first.
Do not ignore a dialer warning. It is not a hard block, but it is a real warning. Check which record the number is attached to and do your research before proceeding.

If something looks off

Ctrl + Shift + R

Windows. Hard refreshes the page, clears out anything stuck from before the update.

Cmd + Shift + R

Mac. Same fix, same result. Try this first before messaging anyone.

Reload

Icon, colors, or anything else still looks off? Go to chrome://extensions, find the Watchdog Scanner card, and click the Reload icon shown here. That reloads just the extension, without needing to touch HubSpot at all.

How the DNC list stays updated

When you install Watchdog, it downloads the full DNC list once. After that, it checks for changes once a day in the background. You do not need to do anything. Any number added or removed by an admin reaches your extension automatically within 24 hours.

This daily incremental sync was introduced to keep Watchdog running on Google Firebase's free hosting tier. The previous approach re-downloaded the entire list every few hours, which would have cost money at Beagle's team size.
